Young Walter Scott prizewinners honoured in virtual awards event

The winners of the 2019 Young Walter Scott Prize were honoured in a virtual awards event hosted on facebook live on Tuesday 16th June 2020.  Category winners Ide Crawford  (14), from Macclesfield and Charlotte Lee (19), from Crewe, spoke about their reaction to winning the prize for their stories The Whale’s Way and The Best Thing, and were congratulated by former Walter Scott Prize winner Robin Robertson, who spoke movingly about their stories and how reading them had reminded him of starting out as a writer.

YWSP administrator Lindsey Fraser compered the award ceremony, prize sponsor and founder the Duchess of Buccleuch spoke about her joy in running the awards, and judge Elizabeth Laird honoured the other prizewinners, giving a snapshot introduction to each of their stories.  YWSP director Alan Caig Wilson also congratulated the prizewinners and spoke about the forthcoming virtual imagination project he is developing for young writers.
