The Prize was recently asked by the Scottish Book Trust to curate a book list for Scottish Book Week.  They wanted us to recommend some great historical fiction by Scottish authors or set in Scotland.  Trawling back through 6 years of shortlists, we found that only one Scottish author had been shortlisted for the Prize.  However casting our net further back, we applied the Walter Scott Prize criteria of originality, longevity and quality, and came up with a list of titles which could have won the Prize had they been published today.  We very much enjoyed curating this list – we hope you might enjoy discovering some new books!
