Spotlight on: new judge James Holloway

28th February, 2017

James Holloway CBE is one of three new judges on the Walter Scott Prize judging panel this year.  We asked him a few questions about the judging task ahead.

Q:  Why do you think historical fiction is important?

A:  The best historical fiction is a passport to a vanished world, a way of connecting the present, and the reader, to the past.

Q:  What are you looking for as a judge?

Good writing and a convincing feeling of time and character.

Q:  What are you looking forward to in becoming a judge?

Reading the work of new authors and entering into their imaginations.
